Marseille: GET ME OUT OF HERE!!! According to the Lonely Planet guide it is not as unsavoury and dangerous as it used to be..... just dont go into the poorest section in the centre of town near the train station after dark. So guess where our hotel was? Right next to that particular fabulous part of colourful Marseille!
On the positive side we did make it out of there. Aix (X) en Provence was nice - full of tourists but excellent quiche.
Turin: Didnt mean to come here in the first place. Wanted to go to nearby Genoa but too popular with the tourists so no room in the inn so to speak. Having said that were pleasantly surprised. Home to the National Film Museum (with Alien egg, face hugger, and big alien), Fiat, Ferrero Roche and Nutella. Of course it is also the home of the big f**king catholic fakers - been dying to say that. It also has more Piazzas than you poke an army of sticks at. D was v happy because there was a street called the Via Garribaldi (B5 reference for those that dont know).
Rome: Arrived yesterday had some reasonable gelati and pizza but not done much. Been sick as dogs - yes big surprise! Got really nasty snotty flus. Must dose ourselves up tomorrow on cold and flu and tablets to see the Forum - D must skip around Roman ruins like giggling school girl. (D note: we are staying in the original Suburbia of the ancient city map)
Toodles for now. Next update probably when we get back. Yours snotily A. |

| The rain in Spain (doesn´t actually seem to fall) |

!Hola! from Bacelona.
Here´s the latest update.
Paris: Strange sort of experience, both of us feeling fatigued by travel. Paris renewed us to some degree but also made us realise we were definetly not eligant enough to blend into Paris. But when all is said and done it is Paris and a thing of beauty.
Spent 7 hours in the Louvre and managed to rush through half of it. Saw most of the main sites, but wasn´t insane enough to go in any of the major ones save the Louvre and Versille (one day each). Had fun ordering vegitarean (although recomend Egyptian cafes for a good vego feast and an after dinner Hookah) as well as surviving pastery breakfasts.
Barcelona: Much earthier feel, until you hit your first Gaudi archetecture. Seen a Dali exhibit and visited the Santia Familia (see this it, is pure and wonderful insanity). Love the long lunches although so much cheap hooch will kill both our livers (wine here is much more of a lucky dip than France).
Well thats it for the moment. Next stop back to France then to Italy.
D
PS: Anyone want to have a party on the 29th of October. Same place as the Wedding. Or is something on. Leave expressions of interest, or let us know what is on.
PPS: Happy Birthday to the mad red headed one ;) |

Sorry for the loss of contact. Fell off roaming in Ireland. Don't know why? Hope we have better luck in Paris. So quick run down.
Belfast: well the city is healing but there is a lot of underlying pain still. See how it goes in a few years time.
Blarney: Damn we are tourists. Puckered up for the rock. Got sick of yank tourists and fluffies (oldies). Still how much different are we?
Dublin: Both liked. Big city despite the suposed small pop. (add half a mil. more). Nice pubs. A interview with Jim FP worked out.

| Almost done with England |
[Sep. 17th, 2006|09:07 am] |
HI EVERYBODY! Writing to you from Newcastle the heart of Northumbria. Arrived yesterday and felt museumed and walked out so we lazed around on our fat arses, ordered room service, watched assorted sci-fi repeats and enjoyed a break from being tourists. Today we will go check out the assorted bridges which according to Northumbrian locals and the Lonely Planet Guide are the main attraction here. Since last posting we have massively got our historic (mainly Roman) nerd on. For instance visited Bath - no surprises as to what we did here, except we went rowing on the River Avon. Also they actually have an excellent Thai Restaurant there (English Asian food except Indian generally pretty bad, Chinese Restaurants normally serve chips - enough said). Next stop Salsibury stayed in crack den hotel where door and windows had been forced, hole in wall filled with tissue paper trying to match wall colour and showerhead with enough mold to kill small army - set the the tone for the town. Did however enjoy our trip to Stonehenge.... oooh yes we are shameless tourists! Then got our nerd on some more at Hadrians Wall - picture D running around roman ruins giggling and skipping like a school girl - do you really require anymore info than that? Heading to Ireland tomorrow will send report on potato scones and local beers next week. Love A PS D stubble update: almost manly. |

| Last couple of days |
[Sep. 9th, 2006|08:48 pm] |
Bit of a whirlwind post due to being at an internet cafe in Oxford. Well this is the run down of the last few days.
Nottingham: Great hospitality from Megan and Christian. Got to meet the precious thing of the house, although have not seen its ninjatsu skills. Got my geek on thanks to Christian at Bugmans and had rather a lot to drink.
York: Lovely town, but very much a tourist town. Only place you are encouraged to find an alleyway and walk into it to discover a whole new wonderful world (that actually doesn't envolve hospitalisation). Saw a Consintine exhibit, train museum went for a walk on the walls and did the Ghost walk. Recomend the Mason Arms for huge servings of good pub food.
Manchester: The puzzling question of the trip was what to do in Manchester. The answer was simple...SNAKES ON A PLANE. So much fun for such a bad flick. Also saw Affleck's Place (a multi floored goth/ alternative market), the Peoples History Museum and the Science Museum.
Oxford: Had dinner at the Eagle and Child (the Inklings old haunt) with a random American Baptist minister we met in Manchester. She is over for a peace walk and is one of the most interesting (in many senses of the word) people we have met in a long time. Did the museum thing again today and saw dinosaurs, shrunken heads and mummies. Topped if off with a walk down the Thames for a bit in the afternoon (cue any Merchant Ivory music).
Alright that is is for a bit. Tomorrow it is off to Bath. A sends her love to all.

| The Bonnie Bonnie place |
[Sep. 1st, 2006|09:11 am] |
Well this entry can be summarised really in just one phrase;
MEGAN IS A GEM.
But for those of you who want a bit more details on the travel, here are things in a nutshell;
The 30th was natural beauty day. Driving around to see the natural wonders of Scotland (read greenery, mountains and some form of water here). Decided I would be a very lazy feudal lord as I couldn't be arsed having my castle built on those inaccessible crags, but feel that lovely bit of flat land would be fine. Plenty of photos to bore you with later.
The 31st was the big E. Toured the castle. Love the story of the Scottish crown jewels. "Made, used, hid from the English, lost, found again, hidden in a linen closet for 111 years, found by the English." Makes you feel like yelling FREEDOM doesn't it ;) After that it was a tour of the tat and back to Glasgow for mushy peas and chips.
Till next time.

| Made it |
[Aug. 29th, 2006|09:52 pm] |
Well despite our best efforts we made it to England.
Five hours before our flight leaves we realise that it is the 25th NOT the 26th that we actually need to fly out. After much panic we actually managed to make it early to the airport, with a couple of hours to spare.
The flight itself was very uneventful. No SNAKES ON A PLANE as the inflight movie (oh well can't have every thing). Just 22hrs of trying to sit and sleep and not die of boredom. Thank goodness for Uno.
London itself was odd. Half convinced that there are no Londoners in London, just tourists. Ended up spending three days not actually seeing much and seeing a hell of a lot. Highlights were the V and A, the Globe and the Tate.
Currently in Scotland, with Megan. Excuse the general lack of detail in this message, bit tired at the moment from the train ride. Will update when have the time and the energy.
